by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) in 1960, 1972, 1980, 1985, 1988, 1992, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2011 to
recieve the Zangerle Award for writing excellence.
- FEATURED ARTICLE: January 2016. Mr. Turner's article, "CROSSING THE THRESHOLD: Identifying when Eoncomic Forces Affect Property Values Market-wide"was published
as the feature article in "Fair and Equitable" the International Association of Assessing Officers Vol 14, No. 1. The magazine serves property tax assessing officials world-wide. Access here

- In Baker-Perkins, Inc. V City of Saginaw, Michigan Tax Tribunal Judge Spencer,
referring to work Mr. Turner had prepared, wrote "I believe, both appraisals were prepared by expert appraisers."
- 2005 MICHIGAN STATE POLICE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AWARD
- October 16, 2009 Michigan Tax Tribunal Judge Victoria Enyart quotes from published materials of Joseph M. Turner to describe important elements in the
apportionment process for "Lake Improvement" special assessments. Judge Enyart's remarks were made to attendees of the conference Taking Charge: Special Assessment Districts for Lake Improvements. The conference was hosted by the Michigan
Chapter, North American Lake Management Society and the Michigan Inland Lakes Partnership at Tustin, Michigan.
