How Much will it cost me if one or both of the caps are removed?

(Note: The average residential Taxable Value in the city of Saginaw is about $21,000. For most people, the cost of two cups of coffee per week in a restaurant would cover the maximum increase in taxes possible if both caps were lifted and the City Council authorized the highest taxes permitted by law. Of course, this example contemplates no tip being left. If one included the value of a tip, the cost would be under two cups of coffee. Not a bad price to keep police on the road, steets repaired and firefighters on duty.)

NOTE:   If you would like to receive a quick estimate of tax changes to your property removing the caps will have; the City Assessor's Office will provide that service at the following telephone numbers 759-1471, 759-1473, 759-1448 and 759-1490 until 5 pm on November 5, 2002.
